but I have not seen anything more complicated than what is available in a single textbook, or what is now available in MOOCs.I also realize there are services like Khan Academy and Coursera which may be more attractive to some.  But they do not meet the requirements of this assignment.

Finally, I think it might be worth noting that I work in education and not in Computer Science.  I do think this idea is worthy of exploration in CS, however.A:I'd recommend "The Web: the World Wide Resource", the book by Danny Goodman (available for free at his website). It's a great book for understanding the current infrastructure of the Web and explaining the most important technologies behind the Web, it's very useful if you want to understand it in depth.A:My 2c's worth. I was doing the same assignment in 2011. It's an excellent assignment and you're welcome to use anything mentioned here.

A good starting point is the Mozilla Developer Network. In my experience, all good programmers know where to go.A:You don't need to look at a MOOC to solve this problem. You could read the wikipedia entry on World Wide Web, and then use your browser's developer console to work out how many bytes are in a single HTTP response. If you want to do it properly, here's the way to do it in Google Chrome: Open the "developer console" (ctrl+shift+j)navigate to the web page that generates the image

expand the network pane and navigate to "network"

select the "Response" tab

Look at the "size" in the "headers" section
