for our first- and second-graders in preschool.I am on the board of the local Montessori school. I volunteered to help teach their preschool. One of our topics is food and eating. My little one is in there for at least half of our time. She eats well. Every morning, I feed her yogurt. I put a little banana on the table. I give her some fruit. She eats lots and lots of fruit. So, she is getting the idea that food can be a good thing and to eat it in moderation. So, when she asked if we could have dinner at the preschool (where we usually eat) this week, I said “yes. And… she chose a healthy mea Here is my little three-year-old this week: Then… we did what she was most excited about… we went out for ice cream She can’t get enough of it! She ate it all… even the ice cream on her face! She also loved her dinner. And, while I think it’s important to learn how to share at a young age, I think it’s equally important to be able to tell our kids that sometimes, we are just too busy to eat. I tell her: “Mommy has to go to work.” I’m also teaching her the importance of self-care. I tell her: “Mommy has to go to work.” She wants to go to work, too. And then, I tell her: “Mommy has to go to work and to come home to mommy and daddy and to eat dinner together. And, at some point, I can’t stay home with her. But, in the mean time, I think it’s important for her to learn early, the importance of self-care So, I’m off to work… and I’ll be back home for the evening, to eat, and to eat some more.We took the girls to the pumpkin patch. They have a new bike trailer and they wanted to practice how to use it and ride in it. When we took it out on the road, they were all smiles. We even got a little exercise in!We ate our pumpkin-spiced-bread and apples and had lunch at a big table in the middle of the cornfield. But… this year, the field was not “cut” into straight rows like it had been in previous years. So, when we got to the field, there were huge patches of dirt in the middle of the rows. I like this. I know I’m always happy when it’s cut and straight. But, I’m happy when the field is mowed. The rows stay cut and straight. And, with a cut and straight field, I can see into the rows. And, if I wanted to, I could look across the
